Fast away the old year passes … but it’s not over yet!
So, if your 2024 New Year’s resolution was to start looking for a new healthcare job, you still have some time to get started. Or maybe it’s just been in recent weeks or months that you’ve been considering a change. Either way, here are some actionable steps you can take to make it happen for you, starting today.
Think First – And Then Make a Plan
Step One in your successful job search is painting a clear picture of exactly what that success looks like to you. Take some time upfront to reflect thoughtfully on this. Once you know, you can build your strategy from there.
• Consider creating a vision board or taking aptitude and/or personality tests.
• Make a list of pros and cons. What have you liked best about your career to date? And what needs to change, for sure?
Update Your Resume and LinkedIn Profile
Be sure your resume, as well as your LinkedIn profile and other social media accounts, are up to date, and professional yet personable. This should always be a high priority, but especially when getting your name out there on the job market.
• Research has shown that 87 percent of recruiters use LinkedIn to source and vet job candidates.
• Make sure your resume is properly formatted and ATS (applicant tracking system) ready. This means that as you tailor it for every application, you include keywords from job postings, so your resume successfully passes these computer filters.
Network, Network, Network!
Build, refresh, and update your professional network. Then, get out there and work it. The holiday season can be an opportune time, as companies, professional organizations, and personal contacts are socializing and hosting events.
• Timing is everything. As you network, listen for any current or possible upcoming openings that fit your career vision. Ask for introductions that would help to further shore up your network. And polish up your elevator pitch, so you can weave it into conversations as appropriate.
Think Positive
As you take each step in your healthcare job search, do so with a positive attitude. Erase any self-doubt about your skills, experience, capabilities, and ability to make a change. Even if you’re an introvert by nature, with the right mindset, success is well within reach.
