Are you familiar with employment, specifically healthcare employment co-operatives?
A growing and dynamic trend nationwide, co-ops are collaborative businesses owned and operated by their employees, aka worker members. Yes, you read that right: owned and operated by their workers.
- Worker members either have representation on their company’s board of directors or vote for its members. In this shared ownership model, each individual has an equal say and actively participates in business decisions and setting policies.
- Co-ops support sustainable, dignified jobs, generate wealth, improve people’s quality of life, and promote community and local economic development. They entitle all worker-members to company profits and tend to invest in local businesses.
- Since they own their own cooperative, worker-members are naturally more committed to its long-term future. This makes for more productive contributors.
The Benefits of Union Representation
AlliedUP is a healthcare employment co-op that partners with the SEIU-UHW in an innovative collaboration that provides our workforce with highly competitive wages and benefits that are not generally seen as independent professionals. This, along with our alliance with Futuro Health to assist current and future healthcare graduates, reaps numerous benefits, including addressing current work experience gaps and earning ongoing benefits as a union member.
- Among these benefits to our worker-members is that via their SEIU-UWH representation, the Education Fund provides financial and mentoring means to help advance professionals’ career journeys.
- Through Futuro Health’s educational offerings, new healthcare students complete program certifications, clinics, and externships. As Futuro Health’s preferred partner, AlliedUP works with new grads, placing them in their first and continuing employment assignments and post-graduate residencies.
- Also, through our Futuro Health collaboration, we support graduates with their job search process from start to finish, including resume prep, interviewing, and working with our diverse team of recruitment professionals and success coaches.
Our goal is to build and maintain an ecosystem to train and employ future generations of caregivers and meet the needs, dreams, and aspirations of ever-evolving healthcare workers. All these partnerships are investments in that vision.
